  Product Highlights

Advanced Composites manufactures custom Polypropylene and TPO compounds specifically for the automotive industry.  We have an unequaled reputation for developing PP/TPO Compounds that provide high-quality, lower-cost alternatives to more expensive engineered thermoplastics such as ABS, PC, PC/ABS, and SMA.

Mold-in-Color Technology
Advanced Composites leads the industry in the development and manufacture of Scratch-Resistant, Mold-In-Color TPO compounds for Automotive Instrument Panels.  Since we introduced the first such materials in 2000, ACP has acquired nearly 90% of the North American market.

Over the past six years, Instrument Panels made from precolored TPO have replaced many of their much more expensive painted PC/ABS counterparts.  Reducing costs has been the primary driving force behind the shift toward TPO since molded-in-color designs do not require expensive secondary painting operations.

While lower costs have provided the primary thrust for the shift away from painted engineering resins to MIC TPO’s,  other important benefits result from the use of MIC materials:

    1. Environmental: Eliminating  painting eliminates emissions of harmful VOC's.  In addition, non-painted plastic materials are much easier to recycle.

    2. NVH (Noise-Vibration-Harshness): Due to Polyolefin materials being inherently quiet and not prone to squeak or rattle, their use results in IP designs that generally require no BSR countermeasures.  Accordingly, manufacturing and warranty costs are reduced.

Mold-In-Color Overview – Background and Test Methods

Ultra-Low-Gloss TPO
Advanced Composites has developed a series of products designed specifically to meet the most stringent low-gloss requirements of the automotive industry. To review these products, please contact our Business Development Manager at: BusinessDevelopment@advcmp.com

High-Performance Pillar Materials for Side-Air-Bag Applications
The Insurance Institution of Highway Safety (IIHS) has determined that side airbag (SAB) systems can significantly improve passenger safety, and automotive manufacturers are including these systems in an increasing number of their vehicles.  However, upon deployment, SAB systems generate extreme forces that can easily shatter conventional thermoplastic trim materials, resulting in the generation of sharp fractures and dangerous, high-speed projectiles, especially at cold temperatures.  Advanced Composites has a complete series of TPO products designed specifically for use in conjunction with SAB systems.   These TPO products meet the most demanding specifications for impact-strength, even at temperatures as low as -40°C.  For detailed information on these products, please contact our Business Development Manager at: BusinessDevelopment@advcmp.com

MultiFleck TPO

Our MultiFleck products are designed to give molded-in-color interior trim components the look of cloth-covered parts – but without the expense of cloth wrapping.  Used in conjunction with cloth-like graining designs, pillar trim and other interior components can be injection molded by conventional means to achieve the appearance of more expensive cloth-covered parts.

Metallic TPO

ACP has recently developed a series of TPO products that can be molded in-color to achieve full-gloss exterior metallic finishes.  Typical uses include bumper fascias, body-side moldings, and other various exterior trim components.
